Last Tuesday at approximately 4:00 PM, Salem Police responded to a report of a shooting at Northgate Park. Three young men had been sitting on a park bench when they had been approached by a single male. After a brief conversation, the suspect pulled out a handgun and shot all three. The victims were identified as Montez Bailey, 21 yrs of age; Skylar Hyland, 21 yrs of age; and Cameron Carolino, 20 yrs of age. Bailey and Hyland were both transported to Portland hospitals by air ambulance; however, Bailey passed away the following morning.
An investigation into the shooting has identified the suspect as Lorenzo Garcia Ceja, 17 yrs of age. The Salem Police SWAT Team served a search warrant at Garcia’s residence in the 3300 blk of Rawlins Av NE shortly before 6:00 this morning. Garcia has apparently not been at the residence since shortly after the shooting. Police checks of numerous residences of associates of his today were unsuccessful in locating him.
Garcia is described as a Hispanic male, 5’04”, 100 pounds, with short black hair and brown eyes. He should be considered armed and dangerous. Anyone with knowledge of his whereabouts is asked to call police immediately.
The Salem Police Department extends its deepest sympathies to the Bailey family and asks for the community’s cooperation in locating Garcia so that justice can be served for Montez Bailey.
