OSP Traffic Contact Leads to 2 lbs. of Methamphetamine and two arrests in Northern Douglas County

An Oregon State Police (OSP) traffic contact Thursday morning south of Cottage Grove led to the arrest of two men on methamphetamine charges. The initial contact led to the discovery of about 2 lbs. of methamphetamine.
According to OSP Sergeant Steve Mitchell, on June 25, 2009 at approximately 6:00 a.m. an OSP trooper observed a traffic violation (Following too Close) northbound on Interstate – 5 south of Cottage Grove near milepost 166 involving a 2006 Nissan Altima displaying California license plates. After the Altima stopped, the trooper contacted the two occupants identified as driver RODOLFO GARIBO, age 24, from Seattle, and passenger ARNOLDO PALOMARES, age 22, from Michoachan Mexico.
Subsequent investigation during the contact led to the discovery of about 2 lbs. of methamphetamine concealed within the vehicle. An OSP drug detection canine assisted with finding the methamphetamine.
GARIBO and PALOMARES were both lodged in the Douglas County Jail for Unlawful Possession, Manufacturing, and Delivery of Methamphetamine.
OSP Roseburg troopers were assisted at the scene by Springfield Area Command troopers, and members from the Douglas County Inter-agency Narcotics Team.
