Oregon State Police (OSP) Drug Enforcement Section detectives are continuing the investigation into the seizure of approximately $180,000 worth of cocaine and methamphetamine Friday morning during an OSP traffic stop near Ashland. Two Washington men were arrested and lodged in the Jackson County Jail.

According to Sergeant Jim Johnson, on January 7, 2011 at approximately 8:00 a.m. an OSP trooper stopped a 1998 Dodge Caravan displaying Washington license plates northbound on Interstate 5 near milepost 9 for a speed violation. The two occupants were identified as driver CRESCENCIANO HERNANDEZ GARCIA, age 28, from Kent, Washington and passenger ARTURO E. GONZALEZ-PERALTA, age 32, from Lakewood, Washington.

Subsequent investigation with the assistance of an OSP drug detection canine led to the discovery of approximately 9 lbs of cocaine and 4 lbs. of methamphetamine concealed inside the vehicle. An Ashland police officer assisted the trooper during the seizure of the estimated $100,000 of cocaine and $80,000 of methamphetamine.

Both men were arrested without incident and lodged in the Jackson County Jail for:

* Unlawful Possession, Distribution and Manufacture of a Controlled Substance – Cocaine

* Unlawful Possession, Distribution and Manufacture of a Controlled Substance – Methamphetamine

OSP was also assisted during the traffic stop and initial investigation by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
