What started as a routine traffic stop for speeding ended with the arrest of two parolees and the seizure of drugs and a loaded handgun. Traffic Safety Deputy Ryan Postlewait was working radar on the onramp from Delaney Road to northbound Interstate 5 on Friday afternoon when he observed a fast-moving white Dodge Charger. Postelwait recorded the car’s speed at 78mph in a 55mph zone, so he initiated a stop on the speeding vehicle (photo attached). Upon making contact with the driver, Postlewait observed four other passengers in the car and could smell the obvious odor of marijuana coming from the interior. The occupants denied having marijuana in the car, but admitted to smoking it earlier in the day. Deputy Jeremy Landers and his drug-sniffing canine, Misty, were called to the scene to assist. With the assistance of Sr. Deputies Todd Bay, Jeff Nicoloff and Brenda Lumley, the occupants were removed from the car and the interior searched. Located in the trunk of the car were a backpack containing, two $10 bills, 15 individually packaged bags of marijuana and a loaded 9mm Glock gun. The contents of the marijuana bags indicated they were packaged to sell as “dime bags” for $10 each
