A Mexican Drug Gangster California man was arrested Monday morning after he tried to hide in the Klamath River while attempting to elude Oregon State Police (OSP) and Klamath County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO) following a traffic stop on the south edge of Klamath Falls. Before jumping in the river and trying to conceal himself, the suspect drove through Reames Golf and Country Club causing minor damage to the course. After his arrest and lodging at the Klamath County Jail, OSP and Sheriff’s Office jail staff were notified by the US Marshals Service that they had a warrant for the suspect’s arrest out of U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Washington for multiple drug and weapon crimes.

On September 12, 2011 at 9:55 a.m. OSP Trooper Travis Peterson stopped a Subaru Outback displaying Washington license plates on Highway 97 south of Klamath Falls near milepost 277 for safety belt use and signaling traffic violations. The two occupants were identified as driver JUAN FARIAS, age 20, from Sunnyside, Washington, and passenger ENRIQUE ALCARAZ PLACENCIA, age 32, from Bell, California.

During the traffic stop the trooper had both men outside the vehicle when PLACENCIA ran, got inside the vehicle and drove away. FARIAS was detained by the trooper and then OSP and KCSO attempted to find the vehicle after losing sight of it when it turned east toward Reames Golf and Country Club. Car tracks were spotted going east across the golf course fairways and the vehicle was found abandoned on a hill top in a residential area.

An OSP Fish & Wildlife trooper spotted PLACENCIA near the Klamath River where he jumped into the water. Troopers and deputies searched along the river bank and found him trying to hide in the river’s marsh grass. He was taken into custody at 10:16 a.m.

PLACENCIA was arrested by OSP and KCSO and subsequently lodged in the Klamath County Jail on the following charges:

* Felony Attempt to Elude in a Vehicle
* Misdemeanor Attempt to Elude on Foot
* Criminal Mischief in the Second Degree

ENRIQUE ALCARAZ PLACENCIA was also lodged as a Fugitive from Justice on the federal warrant. Questions regarding the warrant should be directed to the U.S. Marshals Service.

PLACENCIA and FARIAS were both cited for Possession of less than an Ounce of Marijuana.
